The Black Seed (Nigella Sativa) is a type of plant that belongs to the Ranunculaceae family. It has been used as a herbal medicine for more than 2500 years. It is also used as a food additive & flavouring agent in many countries. Volatile oil of Nigella Sativa has recently been shown to posses 67 constituents, many of which have pharmacological affects in human.

Pharmacological studies of Nigella Sativa carried out in many Universities around the world, suggest that Black Seeds can be used for a variety of applications, both internal & external. A brief list of the research data is given here.

Toxicological studies for Baraka Black Seed Oil (the Nigella sativa oil manufactured by Bio Extracts (Pvt) Ltd., Sri Lanka was carried out by the Institute of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo, Rajagiriya. This study revealed that Baraka Oil has no toxic effects and is safe for human consumption. The extract of the study is attached in this section.
